Draven's positive attitude goes a long way

Friday, June 21st, Necedah, WI - “And here is the kitchenette part of the camper, it has storage here also,” Draven pointed out all the intricate parts of a floor model camper that he was dusting off. His enthusiasm for showing off the camper was spot on with his enthusiasm of his job at Camp-Inn in Necedah.

His Employment Specialist (Job Developer), Michelle, helped Draven begin his career at Camp-Inn with a Job Shadow. During this time he spends time with current employees to talk about what they do at work.

Upon deciding it would be a good fit, and being hired by Camp-Inn, Draven began his employment. He works 3 times a week from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., then goes to school. He is able to work in the morning and go to school in the afternoon through a school to work program.

Butch, Draven’s Job Coach, spends 3 hours of Draven’s shift coaching him. Butch helps keep Draven on task, but is aiming for one day to not need to be with Draven during work.

“Draven learns by repetition,” Butch said. “The more he does it, the better he learns it. He has had machines shown to him and he will learn them the more he sees it done. I have seen him progress in his time here. The important quality he has is his eagerness to learn.”

Draven is fortunate enough to have a great support system at the tight knit, family-like atmosphere at Camp-Inn. Mercedes and Mike, two of his supervisors, give him useful feedback and are always available to him for questions.

“He is doing awesome,” Mercedes said. “Draven likes to work and he has wants to work. He loves to learn, and he has a will to learn.”

Currently, Draven is learning new tools and skills. He is learning how to load and unload wood from specific machines that prepare the wood.

As Draven continues to grow at Camp-Inn, his positivity has not waned. And a positive attitude goes a long way.

Draven is achieving his employment goals through his enrollment with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and choosing Aptiv as his service provider.
